The Flag
The Flag
-
What is this?
I asked but no one heard.
So familiar to my heart;
this piece of cloth abandoned
-
The corner hid its glory
in dust and spider webs
Blood once shed to color red
lies swirling in a puddle
-
White, denoting honor
is stained a yellow hue
While stars once bright and proud and free
are faded into blue
-
I would have picked it up
but somehow understood
The only way to pick it up
is turn our hearts to good
