Of Those Before
Of Those Before
-
On my shoulder I’ve felt the hand of one gone before who took a stand.
I gaze in your eyes through record’s line, and search your truths to make them mine.
-
What you have done, you’ve done for me; for continuing light that I may see.
I shan’t release the burden’s load, till mine are given a paven road.
-
Oh, great the light of those before; undimmed brilliance, thus cometh more.
My son, may you look and always see my simple gift, and those before me.
-
Our nation created on blood and grave; as nations before, yet couldn’t save
That flame of power that moved their heart. Life and limb did this impart.
-
See us not why we are here? To preserve those things which we hold dear?
We must hold fast that which seed we came; or all they lost we’ll lose the same.
-
Foundations firm and plans well drawn; we must never forget the coming dawn;
when none can build on that before, or change the lines of written lore.
-
In this life if all you do, is save the light for one after you;
Then such I know the book shall read; “Harvest full from well-sown seed.”
-
I’ve walked the path, I know the way. Though oft I’ve fallen, I cannot stray.
Instead I’ll map the course I go, and those who follow will surely grow.
-
Those I follow have shown me well; I owe the same, the story tell.
Oh, take my word for what I say, and start at my end, on coming day.
